After more than ten years of development, my country's LED lighting industry has made considerable progress. However, we should also note that many companies now fall into the misunderstanding of blindly pursuing light efficiency. Of course, improving light efficiency makes the brightness higher, but we need to know that it is not enough for lighting products to rely on only one light efficiency index. Only when the requirements of light, color, electricity, energy efficiency, and safety are fully satisfied can they be truly efficient. Lighting, so we should pay more attention to the overall quality of LED lighting products.
It now appears that because of the substantial reduction in chip prices, the light source cost that originally occupied the most important part of the lamp cost was only 10% to 30% of the total cost, while other parts such as power supply and heat dissipation each accounted for 35% to 45%. As a lighting product, the light source occupying such a low cost structure is obviously worthy of our vigilance.
The fundamental reason is that the previous chip prices were too high. High-power chips cost a few yuan each. In order to save costs, companies should use as little chips as possible and increase the power of the chips by increasing the current, thereby increasing the light efficiency. However, the data shows that when working with high current density, the lamp power supply voltage is low, the current is large, the power supply cost is high, and its AC-DC conversion power is low. At the same time, the chip operating voltage becomes higher, the temperature becomes higher, the power becomes lower, and the reliability is also followed. If it becomes worse, the light-to-light conversion power of the phosphor becomes lower. Therefore, to make LED lamps with this kind of plan, the power supply cost is high, and the cost of heat dissipation components is also high. At the same time, this is also the reason why the current LED lighting products often decay too quickly in use.
And now the price of high-power chips has dropped to a few cents, and the price of low-power chips is only a few cents. There is no need for companies to follow the old path. If operating at a lower current density, the lamp can use a high-voltage, small-current, low-cost power supply. Its AC-DC conversion power is high, and the chip's luminous power is also high. At the same time, the chip's operating voltage becomes smaller, the temperature becomes lower, and the power becomes higher. The reliability becomes better, and the light-to-light conversion power of the phosphor becomes higher. Therefore, with this kind of plan to produce LED lamps, the cost of power supply will be lower, and the cost of heat dissipation components will also be lower.
Of course, the current density becomes lower, and to achieve the same light effect, more chips are needed. However, as the operating current density decreases, the requirements for the number of quantum wells in the light-emitting layer of the chip are also reduced, and the production cost of the chip will also decrease, which is also a virtuous cycle. Therefore, this requires the coordinated development of all links in the entire LED lighting industry chain, more work around the technical route of smaller current density, and appropriate use of multiple chips to reduce the stringent requirements of the lamps on the power supply and heat dissipation. In this way, the luminous power and reliability of LED lamps will be further improved while keeping the total production cost of lamps unchanged.
